This
is Miss Dru! I was first introduced to Dru when her owners called and asked for my advice in training her. She was 19
months old, and very aggressive. Not due to mishandling, but from poor socialization.
She
was one of the worst fear bitters I had ever run up against.
On our
first meeting, she attempted to take my face off from 5 feet away! She was having no part of ANYONE coming close to her.
I worked
with her for an hour that night and finally she would accept me being in her "space",the second night, I was able
to walk her on lead and touch her back while walking. She was determined NOT to let me touch her head or try and give her
any affection.
On the
third day, her owners called me at home to say that they "just could not deal with Dru's aggressive behavior, and would I
consider placing her?"
Well,
after a day of thinking it over , I called them and said that I would take her myself, but only if she and our resident dog
"NIKKI" got along.
They
did!
On top
of the socialization, I then introduced Dru to Ms. Garrison. Ms. Garrison has mild to severe seizures. Dru and Ms. Garrison
where interacting for the third time, when out of the blue, Dru jumped up on her and proceeded to push her to the ground.
Unaware of what Dru was trying to tell us. I interceded and placed Dru into a "Plotz"! (down)
She
refused my command and laid across Ms. Garrison at the precise moment when Ms. Garrison went into a seizure!!!!
This
is what started "Miss DRU's" Service Dog Training.
After
3 months of training and socialization, DRU and Ms. Garrison are an inseparable pair. Not one will be seen without the other!
Dru
passed her Service Dog Training, provided by, Kelden's K9 Behavior, in 2 months time. She also has her CGC and SARA certification.
Dru
and Ms. Garrison also do Public Awareness Education along with Kelley IrelandCCBT, of Kelden's K9 Behavior.
